Referendums are part of the IL Public School financial plan. Illinois law capped District 89 revenue increases to match the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or 5%, whichever is lower. This is to FORCE the condition in which the local community can decide whether or not to increase funding or cut programs.

To avoid referendums in public schools means cutting programs. This is the antithesis of bettering teacher work conditions and better outcomes for our students.

The referendum process is a transparent and fiscally conservative approach that gives the community control over their public school finance.
